Peri-Implantitis Treatment in Turkey
Implant dentistry is not all about placing implants to patients jawbone and forgetting them forever. Dental implants require good oral hygiene and regular follow-ups to check if there is any infection or resorption of the jawbone. Peri-Implantitis can be a very unpleasant condition. However, it is possible to stop bone loss and also regenerate the lost bone structure around failing dental implants. In this post, we will go through the available options for saving an implant which is in the early&mid stages of peri-implantitis.
What is Peri-Implantitis?
Peri-implantitis is the destructive inflammatory body response which affects the tissues surrounding a dental implant. A failing implant does not necessarily mean that the dentist performed a bad work. It may have different reasons including but not limited to body response, oral hygiene, persistent periodontal diseases, unhygienic dental implant procedure, medical conditions such as Diabetes etc.

As in other medical conditions, it is very important to diagnose peri-implantitis in the early-mid stages. Once your dentist detects peri-implantitis in follow-up appointments, it is possible to stop the bone loss. Moreover, it is possible to regenerate the hard and soft tissues surrounding a dental implant!

PRGF® is the most advanced autologous Platelet Rich Plasma system. The efficiency of PRGF® system in stimulating the tissue regeneration has been backed by a large number of international scientific studies and publications.
It is based on using the patients own blood cells for stimulating the bone and soft tissue regeneration. Once the blood is taken from the patient by an authorised medical practitioner, it will be centrifuged in order to separate cells and avoid the ones that are causing the inflammatory reactions (IE. Leucocytes).

Case 1 – New Bone Formation in 5 Months

PRGF treatment was performed in a single implant maintenance appointment. Patients own blood has been used for this treatment. Once it has been centrifuged, we apply growth factors with bone grafts to the blood cells and this mixture is applied to the bone loss area.
The new bone formation after 5 months has been successful as it can be seen in the before & after comparison image below. It takes approximately a year for the completion of bone formation.
